Temporary Memory is a composition for recordings and musiciansSometimes, unexpectedly and uncontrollably, a nostalgic emotion arises within me, a blurred longing. The emergence of these emotions is sensory-based. Memory is distorted and stretched. The creation attempts to recreate these moments and evoke fragments of experiences. Like memories, the work stands on the fluid and changing seam between the past and the present, between imagination and reality.

The musicians' score consists of words that lead to melodic patterns. The recordings serve as associative stimuli that prompt the musicians to choose words for performance. The performance is a product of the connections in the minds of the musicians, connecting the written words in the score to listening to the recordings, to actions, to the audience, and to any other events in the space.

The musicians are scattered in the space, and the audience is invited to move among the musicians and the speakers throughout the performance. The intention was to create multiple spaces that exist simultaneously, allowing the audience and the musicians to experience the relationships that develop between them.

The recordings, combined with the live musicians, create a temporality of time and space. Recording is a memory of space, a space of the past. The musicians are agents transmitting electrical signals through the recordings. The words written on the score will have a broad semantics and will be capable of various meanings.

The performers respond to an associative questionnaire in which they are required to write down associations that come to them while listening to various and diverse sound recordings. In this way, I have a personal word bank for each musician that connects with their private world of imagination and experiences. I use this word bank to write words on the score. To maintain spontaneity in the composition, each performance will receive new words from the word bank.

It is also possible to perform a solo version without the recordings. In such a case, the space will alternate with a variety of sonic events (e.g., street sounds), replacing the recordings and the performer who operates them

Performance as part of the final project for Musrara (July 2022)
